De-Clutter Day 5

I don’t have too much to report today except that the house is still a giant disaster. It’s driving me crazy!

We got a big snow storm yesterday.  It really messed with my plan to get all the clutter out of the house.  Jacob got up almost right after I posted yesterday.  I let him have his cup of coffee and then we took the garbage out.  I was worried the garbage man wouldn’t take it all because we have a limit here in the County.  But, he took them all.  Youpi.

I took that picture for my sister who’s in Chattanooga right now. She heard about the storm and wanted me to send her some pictures.

I got the main part of the basement done. Those 59 loads of laundry I did on Thursday really helped. I didn’t take any pictures of my basement because, let’s be honest, what’s so exciting about a laundry room?!

I found a few treasures. One is this old French book my sister and I used to love as kids. The illustration in this book is still as amazing today as it was when I was six.

I also found some hair clips I planned to use when sewing sweaters. They hold the seams in place better than little bits of yarn. Know where I found them? In my freezer in the garage!!!! As if!!! I remember throwing a bunch of stuff in there a few years back when I had moths. I turned the house upside down looking or those damn clips when I sewed my Tilted Duster together. I thought I was losing my marbles. I almost never lose things. I have a photographic memory. I take a mental picture of where things are and almost always find them. One of the awesome things about this last week is that I now know where everything is.

On a very sad note, I put my old slippers in the trash last night. The bottoms were actually coming apart. It was time. Sniff, sniff.

Goodbye old friends. You were very good to me.

Now back to happy things. The view outside my kitchen window this morning is absolutely beautiful.

But it’s not snowing anymore.  So, today is the day that everything goes.  No more bags and boxes in the middle of my space.  Yahoo.

Now it’s the weekend and I’m not doing any more cleaning.

De-Clutter Day 4

Yesterday started with this:

The actual shot was painless. It’s the soreness after it. I can still feel it today.

Despite my wussiness, I had a very predictive day yesterday. I finished up the kitchen.

I’m not really OCD but don’t they look great? How did I ever live in the chaos that was my tupperwear cupboard?

I got the rest of the main floor done. I have tones of empty drawers and trunks. Maybe I can stash wool there?! 🙂

I started with the dreaded spare room around 5:00 PM and stopped close to midnight. But man, was it worth it.

Before:

Don’t judge. I know it’s awful!

BUT!!! Now it looks like this!!

Doesn’t it look awesome? I might lower that painting. I find it a little high.

When I went to bed last night, I finally conceded that I need new slippers.

20130208-102253.jpg

Not bad, I would say, considering I knit these in 2007!

I am going to have to figure out what to do with this mountain of yarn now!!

So, that was my day yesterday.

This morning, I was a little bummed when I walked down the stairs, anxious for my coffee, and saw this:

Then I looked outside and saw the snow. I wanted to get rid of all this stuff today! Will it happen? Please please please!

On the schedule for the day is the basement. I must have done 59 loads of laundry yesterday – towels and sheets and sleeping bags. So, I guess that made for a good start for today.

Onward!

But please stop snowing. And Dear Garbage Man, take your time, I’m waiting for my 18-year-old boy to crawl out of bed to help me take all the garbage to the road.

De-Clutter Day 3

Yay! I don’t hurt all over today. I’m pretty excited about that.

So, yesterday I managed the kitchen. That’s pretty much it. I have nothing super-exciting to report. It’s just a kitchen after all. But, I cleaned the shit out of it! It looks awesome. I even figured out how to take apart my microwave door to clean the glass on the inside! Been wanting to do that for EVER!  It sucked up some time though.  I even went through all my plastic bags and chucked the ones with holes (in the recycling) – the amount of bags was becoming a problem.

I also cleaned out my old antique buffet and found the drawers lined in the wallpaper I think was in the kitchen of the old farmhouse I was born in.

I must admit that I’m a little bummed.  Because yesterday was almost all about the kitchen, I’m behind. I was supposed to do the kitchen, dining an living rooms yesterday. So, I have to work extra hard to catch up today. Tomorrow is the basement. That’s going to be another big job I think. Lots of stuff ends up down there when I don’t know what else to so with it.  I also have some stuff I need to put up on Kijiji.

OH!! My plan for today now includes heading to my doctor’s office for a tetanus shot. I cut myself on this jar trying to get the pickles out. I couldn’t get the covers off cause they had started to rust.  When I tied the old knife tap, the knife went through the lid.  Yikes!  I’m going to head over to the doctor’s before I start working today… but after yoga. I remember that needle hurting. I’m not usually such a big baby but, I’ll need my arm today.

20130207-090124.jpg

I’m pretty sure the house is a bigger mess now than when I started.  Isn’t that the way it goes?  The parts I have done are awesome.  I’ve been making a trip to Value Village every day this week.  AND, my garbage man is going to hate my guts tomorrow.

Last night was knit night.  We had a big gang again.  I love it when we’re a lot of people.

Well, that’s it for day 3.  Today is day 4 and I’m feeling the pressure.  😉

De-Clutter Day 2

I woke up this Wednesday morning with a very stiff body. Maybe lugging 30 L bags of dirt up the stairs two at a time was not a great idea.

But, we got ‘er done! All my plants are in brand new dirt.

I thought it was only going to take a few hours. It took all day! Damn. I was hoping to be done in the early afternoon so I could get a bunch of other things done around the house.

20130206-094212.jpg

Turns out that I managed to at least get all the wool out of the spare room. This is the pile.

20130206-094312.jpg

Imagine that half of that is spinning fiber and the other half is either handspun wool or commercial wool. I contained the spinning fiber into these awesome storage containers my sister gave me. They fit awesome under the bed in the spare room.

20130206-094501.jpg

But now, I’m left with all this spun yarn that will need a home.

20130206-094536.jpg

20130206-094544.jpg

My yarn closet is overflowing as it is!!! This is at least two more Rubbermaid containers! Maybe I should have a wool sale? Or maybe I should STOP BUYING WOOL!!!

Today, I’m working on the kitchen and living room.

Tonight is dinner with some of the girls from knitting and then it’s knitting circle. Yahoo!

Now for a little bit of yoga to stretch out these sore muscles.
