Life’s too short for only one project!

That’s what I’ve decided.  I like my Korella just fine but, was absolutely dying to make Olive.

It’s been quite a week since my Memère died.  I honestly didn’t think it would affect me so much.  She was my last grandparent.  I feel her loss.

Wall all the stuff to do last week and working all weekend, I’m so tired I can hardly stand it.  I put on some tea, took some pictures, cleaned up a little, will write this post and then sit my arse down and watch a girl-y movie (Shopaholic).  I think I need to sleep for 36 years.  Maybe then, and only then, will I feel better.

I got to visit little Patrick on Friday.  Man, is that kid ever cute!  (Sorry about the phone pics… they don’t do him justice.)

I could eat him!!!!!!

The weather’s sort of been a little on the strange side too.  Last week, it was this:

It was quite beautiful to see.  I love the view here.  I love that this is what I’m looking at when I’m making my coffee in the morning.

It rained earlier and then the sun came out and looked like this:

The contrast between the grass and the sky is pretty neat I think.

Bla, bla, bla… how boring ha?  Well, sorry…

I also took pictures of some dead flowers before I threw them out.

I used to take pictures all the time.  It was one of my favorite things to do.  Now, I take pictures of my knitting – which is fine but less creative.

This is what my Olive looks like so far:

Well, those are my colors anyway.  This yarn is like butter.  I didn’t want to get the Isager alpaca so I went on Knit Picks (’cause they were having a sale) and got this baby alpaca.  It’s lovely to work with and likely a fraction of the price.

I also have the new socks I’ve started.  They’re my Purse Project (hereafter referred to as my PP).

I finally started the sequel to Friday Night Knit Club.  Pretty good so far.  Don’t laugh… I carry a really big purse!

I’m tired and must knit now.

Goodbye

My Memère died yesterday.   She was 87.  Now she’s with my Pepère.

I like this picture of her.  She was so cute.

I spent a few hours with her on Saturday morning.  She had much altered in the past few weeks.  She still had the most beautiful and soft grey hair though.

I think she knew we were there.  She would open her eyes and look like she was smiling when we announced ourselves.

She was with my sister when she passed.  She loved my little sister and I’m glad they were together.

We’re all going to miss her but she’s not suffering anymore.

Books.

I love books.  I love the way they look, the way they smell… I’m a little strange.  I also love office supplies.  It’s a thing from when I was a little girl I think and my father used to take us to this office supply place that looked like it had shelves that could reach the sky.  When you’re 6, 10-foot shelves are gigantic.

So, this would explain why I lovegoing to the library.  I can walk out with as many books as I want and I know I won’t go home, look at my bank balance and feel guilty.  (And, it smells good in there.) I buy books too – the ones I really love.  I’ve also started getting books on CD.  I live a little ways out of town so, it passes the time.  I’ve read/listened to some really good ones like Life of Pi, some of the Harry Potter books, My Sister’s KeeperJust Breathe, The Broker, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid SunsThe Sunflower, and a lot more that I can’t remember off the top of my head.  These were all really really good.

I dyed my hair really dark brown.  I love, love, love it.  I don’t have a picture to post though.

I made another pair of Bella’s Mitten’s for my sister’s friend Edyth.  I don’t know if she has them yet but, I’m finished with mittens for now.  My hairdresser ordered a pair so, I’m not totally finished.  Plus, I have to make a pair for ME right?

My Korella’s coming along nicely.  I’m hoping to have the front finished this week sometime so that I can get the back finished next week, knit the neck and sleeves and be done with it.  I want to start my February Lady something awful.  Then, I ordered yarn for another project.  Shhh. Don’t tell anyone – they’ll give me shit for buying more yarn when I have 6 big bins in my “yarn closet”.  (I just didn’t have enough for this project – plus it called for alpaca and I don’t have any.)

Check it out – this is my next-next project:  it’s called OLIVE.

Then I want to make this:  it’s called PUCKER (I think).

It’s going to be a busy summer.

Best start getting ready for work now.  What a bummer.  I bet if I didn’t have to go to work today, I could finish Korella’s front.

I’m not a loser!

First: I finished another pair of Bella’s Mittens.    It doesn’t matter how many times I make these mittens, I’m still in love with the cable.

Second: I used my swift and ball winder.  I love both of them equally.  The resulting “galette” was perfect and balanced.  I can’t wait to use it again.

Third:  Jacob joined MMA (mixed martial arts).  He asked me to watch last weekend.  I giggled (the nervous kind) the whole time.  It goes against everything motherly to stand by and let your son get punched in the head (even with head gear) and not rip the arms off of the one delivering the blows.  I knit.  They didn’t make fun of me.

The conclusion I came to today:  People don’t think us knitters are losers when we whip out our WIP in public.  Even Jacob doesn’t chastise me for taking it out (even in front of his new MMA friends).  In general, people are curious.  I’ve always noticed people staring, or asking me what I’m making.  Today, I went to the hair salon.  Jacob was getting his hair cut.  The girls were curious.  Steph even said she wished she could knit like me.  She doesn’t think she has the patience to learn – you know the part where you suck and then get better with patience and commitment.  But, she kept looking.  She even told me that I should make *things* for sale at their salon.  How funny was that.

Later today, after work, school and all that crap-olla, Jacob and I went out for dinner.  We sat in a booth and I took out my knitting.  The lady in the booth next to ours was facing me and leaned over her elderly mother and asked what I was making.  She asked me a few more questions and went back to talking with her mother.  I could hear bits of their conversation and they were talking about knitting and crocheting.  I noticed other people looking.  You know – when they all of a sudden turn their head away when you look in their direction.  It’s funny.  So, people are curious.  They don’t think we’re losers.  Maybe they think we’re kind of cool?
