Birthday Socks

For a while there, I had three pairs of socks on the go.  I finally finished Emilie’s birthday socks and delivered them to her, blocked and smelling like lavender, on the day of her birthday.  I think they were a hit.

Like I said before, I’m not crazy about the toe-ups.  And the heel construction?  Just strange.  They still turned out very nicely.

Whether she wears them or not, I’ll probably never know.

In the meantime, I keep finding more things to knit.

My mother and I are going to Ottawa for an appointment today.  She’s picking me up early so we can go to this new place one of the spinning ladies told me about.  It’s called Knit-Knackers Yarn Warehouse.  A WAREHOUSE. Sounds like it’s really big – which in turn means that it’s dangerous.  They have fiber there that I want to look at.  They also have spinning wheels.  That’s mostly why I want to go.  I am determined to use up my stash yarn but… that doesn’t seem to be working.  In the last month, I’ve ordered three skeins of sock wool and 10 balls of Alpaca/Silk/Merino for a cardi.  Not GOOD!

I’ll report tomorrow…

Telltale signs

Yesterday, the ladies of spinning were in my living room.

How can you tell spinners are around?  You find these everywhere:

I thought my living room was pretty roomie… until yesterday.

Let me tell you… stick enough spinning wheels in one room and it gets really small.

It was a great time.  I’m learning so much.

I think I need my own wheel now…  Better save my pennies.  If I ask for money for my birthday and Christmas, I should be able to get my own wheel in a few years.  Haha.

Maybe I should sell some wool?  I’ve got such a big stash (I’m sure it’s worth thousands of dollars).

I also got these in the mail yesterday:

The mauve (actual name of color is “Sangria” – yummy) is for my Minimalist Cardigan and the other stuff is… you guessed it… more sock wool.  Ha.  Check out the colors!  Aren’t they fantastic?

I can’t wait to knit these up.

Wait… get in line!!!!  I can’t start any new projects. I’ve got too many things on the go already (4 to be exact – two socks and two tops).

I finished Emilie’s socks.  They’re soaking in the sink with some wool wash.  The red was so rich that I knew the color would run a little.  I wanted to try to get some of that out before I gave them to her.  AND, there were a few peccadilloes in the toe-up socks that I didn’t really like and am hoping that I can block them out on a sock form.

I’ve finished the back of my Drops 103 jacket.  It’s funny how because it knits up so fast, I keep knitting too far and missing some of the necessary steps.  I knit in the van on the way to Trombino’s last night and left the pattern at Scott’s place.  I knew something was off but I kept going anyway.  When I checked the pattern this morning, not only did I miss the shaping but I totally omitted the double moss on the panel in the front.  DUH!  I had to rip back about 30 rows.  No biggie.  I did the same thing for the back part.  I was knitting away (stocking stitch) while reading And Then There Were None.  I went too far and had to rip back to where I had omitted the underarm shaping.

I need eight hands to work on the projects I have going right now.  They pretty much just all have to take turns.

Well, I’m off to visit my friend Tina today.

Fantastic!

Magnificent Monday!

Why is today magnificent you ask?  Let me count the ways:

  • I’m off today
  • I don’t have to leave the house today at all
  • I can hang out in my pj’s all day if I want
  • I slept over 12 hours
  • The very polite UPS guy delivered New Moon, Knitting Without Tears (which I think means that I officially have all of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s books), and my new Edith Piaf CD’s about 45 minutes ago
  • It’s yucky outside so I don’t feel guilty staying inside
  • I have a big pot of Panamanian coffee on
  • I’m off tomorrow

I haven’t mentionned yet that Norm (Karen’t husband) made me a niddy noddy.  Check it out – another tool!

Isn’t it beautiful?  On my new niddy noddy is 198 yards of yarn I spun.  I’m thinking of dying it.  I have to get a pot that I only use for dying though.  Apparently, it’s bad to use it to dye wool and then cook noodles (after a washing of course).  Oops!

I started reading:

The Time Traveler's Wife

It’s excellent so far.  I can’t wait to read more.

Alright.  I’m off to knit… maybe watch a movie.

Is there such a thing as knitting ADD?

Ok, so last time I posted, I wrote that I had three pairs of socks on the go.  Well, I have since cast on something else… the Drops 103 jacket.  I had some Americo in my stash that I wanted to use up so…. off I went, starting something else.

PLUS, I ordered wool to make the Minimalist Cardi, which is the March Interweave Knits knit-a-long.

When I was in Ottawa with my mother last week, I got wool for mittens, a scarf and the Pucker (see link bellow).

I quit one of my jobs so that I would have more time to knit.  I STILL don’t have enough time!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What am I going to do??????

I WANT TO KNIT EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!

Oh, that and I really want to open a yarn shop….
