Just a Quick One

I got my tattoo on Friday.  Loni did a great job.  I’m getting mixed reactions from people when they see it.  All the people that know me the best think it’s awesome because I love to travel so much.  “It’s totally YOU!”  said Tina when it was all said and done.

It’s a little scabby right now.  Actually, it’s a lot scabby.  It almost doesn’t look like a real tattoo.  It looks like a henna tattoo and someone left the paste on!  Haha.

In case you can’t tell, it’s about 2 inches above my wrist on the inside of my arm.

Saturday, yesterday, was an odd day.  I spent a lot of time driving.  I actually ended up in front of a house I used to live in a long long time ago.

Yah… I was trying to drive and take pictures with my phone at the same time – hoping they wouldn’t call the police ’cause there was some weird chick taking pictures of their house!

This house is in a very small village sort of in the middle of nowhere.  BUT, don’t you think this place would make a wonderful yarn shop?

I can appreciate that it might be difficult to grasp the potential from this picture alone.  There’s a stop sing, a car and my parking pass sort of hindering the view.  I remember loving this building as a kid.  For some reason, in my little kid brain, they used to sell really cool stuff there – maybe antiques or strange/interesting junk?

The reason I was driving all over the place yesterday?  Jacob’s prom-party.  Well, not his, his school’s.  He’s not old enough yet.  Either way, it was far… and very very muddy.  I think I should also mention the number of mosquitoes!  There were a million-trillion-bazillion!!!  That’s a lot!  I don’t think you could pay me a million dollars (ok maybe a million – but nothing less!) to sleep in a tent in this weather with that many mosquitoes.

Later in the day, I got an unexpected phone call that really made me think.  Without going into detail, it make me realize that I don’t think people really change.  Funny how I’m only realizing that now.  No matter how much time goes by.  Some people never grow up!  Ha.  I don’t know why I feel so surprised to discover this now… a little late in life.

Jacob called me nice and early to pick him up.  So, I went to get him and we came home and watched “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”.  Very cute movie.  I spun some Cormo while we watched.

Today, I’m also doing this:

Tomato and dill soup.  Yum.  Might look gross now but I’ll whiz it later and it will look better.

I’m also doing some of this:

Making poopy wool into pretty wool.  I have two whole fleece.  This is going to take me forever!  Makes me wish I still had my top-load washer.  I could just put wool in there to soak instead of in my kitchen sink!  I could do it in the bath but it’s gets all tangles up because there’s too much wool.  It got messy when I did my Shetland in there.

Tomorrow is Monday.  Back to the ol’ routine.  I suspect it will rain.  It feels like it’s been raining here forever.  The sun seems to be attempting an appearance but the clouds won’t let it.

My soup smells wonderful.

I’m going to attempt some sesame crackers now.

PS:  blogging is never quick if you insert photos.  Is it just me and my slow-ass internet?

That’s What Friends Are For!

It’s hard to remember everything I’ve done in the past month since my last post.

My boots arrived on Friday, finally.  I love them.  They’re really very stiff and it’ll take a while to break them in but they kick arse!

One of the girls from our knitting circle moved away.  I’m sad.  She made these for everyone:

Cass designed this big itchy “Belt Bag” that I loved.  She wrote down the pattern for me and I made it.  Right now, it’s Diane is putting the lining in for me because I don’t like sewing.

This is Cass’ bag.  I hope mine turns out this good.

I spun up my merino/silk from Wabi Sabi:

I Navajo plied it, like in the video I posted at the beginning of the month.

I also started these socks (Dragonfly – free on Ravelry) and discovered a new way of casting on.

Check out how stretchy the cast-on is!

Here’s the how-to video:

I booked a trip to China with Jacob.  Price of flights was reasonable.  Thank GOD I have someone to stay with up there.  It’s going to be a blast.  I got my guidebook and have been scoping out all the places we’ll have time to go in two weeks.  I also found A YARN SHOP in Shanghai!  I can’t wait to check it out!

And last but no least, I spent my Friday night (until past midnight) at the tattoo shop (Skin WithinLoni) with my bestest buddy Tina while she got this:

Hahaha.  Do you like my little black blob to hide her butt-crack?

It was a long night but totally worth it.  She really appreciated that I stayed for the whole 6 hours with her.  “That’s what friends are for” I told her.  Now she definitely has to be there for my big one… if only money grew on trees – or I didn’t want to travel so much.

Ummmm… I also made an appointment to get another small tattoo on Friday.  I guess I’ll post pics of that next weekend.  Hihi.

I’m sure I’ve left out some interesting things.  My brain is not functioning as well as it used to.

Oh, I’ve been extended re: the day-job thing for another month.  Not sure how thrilled I am about that but it’s steady income – which is sort of a blessing at this point because I know what I can count on before China.

Today, the spinning girls are coming.  I made some soup.  Hope it tastes good.  I kind of just shoved a whole bunch of stuff in there.

Regarding Boots

I’ve been looking for a new pair of boots forever.  I have some Doc Martens that I bought in 1997 when I went to college.  I wear them to cut the grass now ’cause they’re so used up.

Because I’ve never been able to find that style again, I’ve been searching for something similar and have come up empty.  So today, I spend a couple of hours searching Ebay, Etsy, and any other site I might find boots and found these on Amazon.com for a lot cheaper than anywhere else:

I also found this really cool video on Docs:

I’m excited and I wanted to share.

Today is Mother’s Day.  I managed to burn my stew by leaving it in the crockpot overnight on “warm”.  Apparently, this is synonymous with “burn” my sausages and make them taste like nothing!  Dang!  Now I have to run into town to get all new ingredients and start over.

I’m off to a good start.  Haha.

A Good Week

I’ll use pictures to describe my week.

Wabi Sabi:

Merino/Silk roving.

Thimble Cakes:

YUMMMMMM!!!

Then Oh Basil’s:

Again, YUMMMMM.

My new toy:

I made a mistake and twisted a few of the warp strings.  Still looks nice for my first project.  I’m excited.

I took the weekend off to rest.  I should have taken some time today to cut my grass but I didn’t feel like it.  Haha.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mom’s.
