Socks, socks and, well… more socks.

For some reason, lately, I can’t seem to cast on enough socks.

I started my RSC socks.  Then I started socks for Scott’s daughter.  Then I started socks for Scott’s friends’ daughter for her birthday.

I’ve been carrying all these bags around with me this week.

These are the sock club socks:

Funny looking I know.  But, I’ve been reading on other people’s finished items and I guess these “nipples” go away when you block them.  I hope it’s true.  Otherwise I can’t imagine they’ll be very comfortable.

These are Kiera’s socks:

I love the blue and green combo.  The yellow, grey and red… not so much but, together they’re cute.

These are Emilie’s socks:

This little girl (well, she’s not that little) has – you guessed it – not little feet!  So, just in case, I started these socks from the toe up.  At least, if I run out of yarn, she’ll just have shorter socks as opposed to toe-less socks.

My mother and I hit the yarn shop in Orleans on Tuesday past.  I could have stayed there all day and have easily cleared her out of her stock.  I maintained control and ended up, instead, getting enough yarn to make the Fiddlehead Mittens, Pucker, the Noro Scarf and Emilie’s socks (which I’m going to pretty much make up as I go).  I even managed to get all this for little moulah!  I was so proud.

NOW I HAVE STARTITIS.

Startitis:  term used jokingly among knitters. It refers to an expensive, but rarely fatal affliction that often affects knitters and crocheters where they begin several projects all at one time but don’t really make much progress on anything before starting another new project.”

Get my drift?

BUT, since the yarn shop on Tuesday, I’ve been obsessing about opening my own yarn shop.  I have so many ideas – good ones.  I even have a name picked out.  I know what kind of space I want.  I know what kind of furniture I want.  I know how I’m going to lay out my books and hundreds of skeins of wool.  It’s all in my head.  It’ll be great…

SOMEDAY.

Socks and Stars

First the socks.

I started the Cascadia socks I got for the month of January Socks that Rock project.  They are challenging without being difficult.  I REALLY love the color though.  And I LOVE Blue Moon Fibre Arts.  I have to pay attention with this project.  It has charts!  Whichis why I cast on a pair of plain socks for Scott’s daughter Kiera.  I’m using the Opal variegated that Christina brought me from the factory in Germany.  There are so many vibrant colors in this yarn that putting in a pattern would be a waste.  I’m also going to cast on a pair of socks for Emily – Scott’s B/F’s daughter.  We were there for dinner last weekend and I must have given her the knit-bug.  She went downstairs and fished out her mother’s knitting basket and had me show her how to knit.  Apparently, she’s obsessed now – and frustrated that she’s not good at this yet.  Maybe I’ve created a new knitter.

I’ve officially finished all of my baby hats.  I added a few flowers.  Aren’t they cute?

Now for the stars.

I came home later enough last night.  I was babysitting little Patty (my pseudo-nephew).  When I got out of the car at home at about 10:00 pm, the stars were out in full force.  I just couldn’t believe it.  Every once in a while, it hits me – I love where I live because I get to see this.  If it hadn’t been so cold and so late, I would have sat out on the deck to stare at them.  They were spectacular.

I think I might spin a little before my nap.  I’m working nights all weekend.  Yikes!

People are nice!

Five years ago or so, I came up with a design for a coat rack.  When I was in NYC in 2005, I went to Anthropologie and started buying parts for it.  By “parts” I mean little antique-looking door knobs that I was planning to used instead of hooks.

I have since been looking for a coat rack that I can use.  They’re not cheap!

A few months ago, Karen from my knitting circle shows up on knit-night and presents me with a blank coat rack that she had her husband build for me.  Since that time, I’ve ordered more knobs and on Saturday, Karen and Norm came over and he put my little knobs on.

They did this for me out of the goodness of their hearts.

I made lots of baby hats last week.

I might put some flowers on the girlie ones.

Then yesterday, I went and picked up Glenda’s wheel at Diane M’s.  Glenda’s on holidays for 7 weeks and let me borrow her wheel out of the goodness of her heart.  How nice!

I spun a whole bobbin when I got home.  My whole body hurt when I finally got up but, I’m pretty proud of myself.  I don’t think I can call myself a spinner yet – I sure am working on it though!

Check out how even it is!  Wool is easy to spin.  While I was at her place, Diane gave me some alpaca and then some mohair and they sucked.  I’ll stick to wool for now until I’m good at that.  When I’m ready, I’ll graduate to a longer fibre.

I’m on nights for the next two weeks.  I don’t mind so much because I have a few hours during the day to myself to do whatever.  I can knit, spin, read, clean, do laundry, make phone calls, maybe hit the gym, etc.

I HAVE NO PROJECT.  I’ll wind up my Rockin’ Sock Club skein today and start on that.  I know I said I would start on it last week but, I just never got around to it.

I want to make something big!  I think I’ll take out my Americo and make one of the Drops jackets.

Off to clean the house and do some laundry.
