Follow-Up Wednesday

Wednesday night, I headed back to Lou’s to cut my soap into bars. It’s so exciting.  I’m not really sure why this thrills me so.  I do enjoy making things.

Her husband Michael made her all these really interesting gadgets to make the process easier. And easy it was. Cutting up the bars only took a few minutes.

Naturally, I took photos of the whole thing. Well, Lou took the pics so I could do the cutting. 🙂

First thing was to remove the soap from the wood molds.

Then, remove the wax paper from the soap. The giant bar, in this form, looks a lot like fudge.

Then comes the cutting. How cool are these gadgets!?

And there you have it! 14 beautiful bars of peppermint soap, made by me.  Don’t I look like a huge dork?!  I love it.

Thanks Lou! You’re awesome!

Yesterday, I spent a big chunk of my day hanging out with my friend Bonnie and her husband. I have to share this because it’s too sweet: Her husband was on his way to the kitchen to make himself a cup of coffee and suddenly stoped, turned to me and said “You know Mylène, Bonnie’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” Doesn’t that just melt your heart?!

I’m one of those lucky girls who has been seriously blessed with tones of people in my life who inspire me.

I finished Steve’s clogs! They’re wonderfully perfect and drying on the vent. 🙂

I also crocheted an infinity scarf yesterday. It turned out exactly the way it was supposed to. I had been driving myself crazy trying to figure out the stitch for this project. Then yesterday morning, while I was having my coffee, looking online for said stitch, it dawned on me that it’s a single crochet worked in the round. The things I learn! I LOVE it.  I think I might need one of these.  It is the perfect length and it so cozy that I didn’t want to take it off.  BUT it’s not for me.  🙁

Tonight is my first of three night shifts. I plan to start Tina’a socks with that pretty BMFA I just received.

Hope everyone has a great and safe Easter weekend!

Busy. Busy.

Well everyone, the scarf is officially finished. It’s beautiful. If it wasn’t so long, I would be tempted to keep it for myself.

When I was blocking this piece, all I did was pull on it a tad and it reached over 14 feet! Can you imagine?! So I pushed it back a bit.

I can’t wait to give it to Kurt! He’s going to LOVE it. I’m sure I’ll be able to post a picture of him wearing it shortly.

I finished up the seam on the Joe hat. It doesn’t look that great on me so I might pass it on to one of the boys at work who said he really liked it.

Last night, I worked on a couple of quick projects. They both turned out beautifully!

The Marshmallow Fluff Cowl for me.

I love how they all turned out! And I plan to wear my new cowl when I head out today.

Have a great week everyone!

Wonderland. The Winter Kind.

I love snow. See why?

And a little “ahhhh” after shoveling some of that beautiful snow.

And now, about the scarf:

About three feet to go. Then weaving in of ends, a little bath and some blocking to give it a little extra length.

The Plan

So, I’ve booked a week off. For me, that means only two shifts on a short week. It’s so awesome. The purpose of my week off is not to travel (I’m totally pouting about that these days). I booked the week off to de-clutter my house. I moved here in 2006 and I’ve been steadily accumulating things ever since. It’s not a big house, which is making the said accumulation of things a bit problematic.

Now, I’m not a good planner. When I have days off, I really like to dilly-dally. It’s probably something that drives my family and friends crazy. Them: “When do you think you’ll be here?” Me: “Not sure… How’s four-ISH?” Then I get lost in whatever I’m doing that day – reading blogs and drinking coffee, looking at stuff on Ravelry, knitting or crocheting, yoga… Or whatever. I just LOVE being home.

In light of my flakiness, I’ve come up with a plan for the five days of next week. Every hour between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm is accounted for. I NEED to do this so I don’t lose time just getting lost in my little space. It’s going to be a lot of work. But it’s going to be SO worth it when it’s done.

Now, I just have to figure out where I’m going to put all my wool, fiber and all things related. This is probably the thing I’m most worries about.

Today, I’m working on a yoga mat bag in the colors of the chakras. I think it’s turning out awesome!! I had to go get two balls of yarn at Michaels though. I had made myself a promise not to purchase any yarn until I had made a serious dent in my stash. But this project would not have been what it is without these two extra colors. The colors I already had were left overs from the monkey hat and leg warmers. So, considering the thing has eight colors in it, $12 is a pretty awesome as my cost for this project!

I’m pretty excited right now. I’m having Thai for dinner and then it’s knitting night. After knitting, I’m driving to Ottawa to see Steve. On the way there, I made a phone date with one of my bestest friends Michelle. Perfect chatting time – in the car. I have Bluetooth…. In case anyone is thinking that I used hand-held while driving. That’s illegal in Ontario. Hahah.

Hope your day is as awesome as mine!
