No More Waiting!

For the last little while, I’ve been saving my pennies to go on a trip.  Not traveling has been really tough for me (as mentioned repeatedly in my previous posts).  This week, the waiting is OVER!!!!  I’m going to Portugal and Boston with my friend/co-worker Angie.

The planning and execution came about very quickly – I’m a bit impulsive that way.  In about 12 hours, we picked a destination, researched a bit, booked our time off and booked our trip.  We leave in less than a month.

I feel like leaping off a cliff!  I won’t.  But planning travel always makes me feel like I can fly.  Strange, I know.  What can I say.  I’m addicted.

I got to see these two this weekend:

I’m going to finish this post and cast on before my night shift.  Woot!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR and all that good stuff.

Feeling Proud

I had my third workshop this week.  Second time doing the crochet cowl.  Turns out that most of the girls were from my gym, one from my work and one stranger (until Tuesday).

They blew me away!  It’s Friday and most of them have sent me pictures of their finished pieces.  Poor Wendy hasn’t had time to work on hers –  all this holiday planning and prepping… and work is getting in the way of her crafting.  Welcome to my world.

Check them out!  Is it strange that I’m really proud?

Aren’t they awesome?  I think most of them have started another project.  Amazing!  (Can you tell I’m excited?)

On Wednesday, I worked on my son’s girlfriend’s birthday/Christmas blanket.  All.  Day.  I’m not kidding.  I did NOTHING else.  It was messy.

There was a LOT of Once Upon a Time involved – almost a whole season in fact.

I made my next workshop demo hat, twice.

Can you spot the differences?

I posted this cowl last week but this pic is nicer because you can see what it looks like ON.

I must admit that I rather like it.  It was the gift for our work exchange.  Cindy wore it as a tube-top for a bit but I hear she liked it around her neck too.  You just never know.

I was rooting through some of my “stuff” (looking the email address of a friend in Brazil I hope to visit this year) and came across these.  I had to post them.  They’re just too funny.  I think Jacob might have been six there.  Does anyone know how I can get him that small again?

Guess what I took out yesterday???!!!!

The wool for my Icelandic sweater!  Yahooooooo.  Once I’ve finished weaving in all the ends on that blanket (have half done already), and the poster and pattern are done for my January workshop, this yarn is gettin’ some BIG love.

Dear weekend of night shifts: please be kind.

Until next time my friends.

Goals for a week off.

I’ve been off since Friday morning at 7:00 am.  I don’t work again until this coming Friday at 6:00 pm.

I didn’t do much this weekend except attend our annual Christmas party.  It was nice to get all dressed up, get my hair done and put on a fancy dress.  The dancing was great – at my age, you don’t have much opportunity to shake your ass.

For the rest of my week off, I set some goals.

#1:

Get the snow fence up.  I know it’s been uncharacteristically warm this year.  I went out in my flip-flops last week.  Imagine my excitement.  BUT, it will snow eventually and I really want to be prepared.  I got stuck way too much last year and I don’t have someone to rescue me this year.  SO, better be over-prepared than stuck in a snow drift at 6:00am.

THANK YOU RENEE FOR YOUR HELP DOING THIS ON YOUR SUNDAY OFF.

Finish Kayla’s blanket.  I’ve been working on this thing on and off since mid-October.  I really would have liked to have it finished for her birthday on November 22nd but that flew by.  Now, it’s a Christmas gift.  Christmas is next week.  This week, the blanket NEEDS to get done, ends woven in, washed and wrapped.

#3

Dye some yarn to make the Purl Soho Ombre Wrap.  I won’t use cashmere because it’s just too expensive.  I’ll dye some “blank” sock yarn from Knit Picks instead.

#4

I have to work out my January workshop project – a knit hat.  I have to make my sample, write out the pattern and make my posters.  Should be fun.

That’s it for the major goals.

Here’s what I recently finished:

I called this cowl the Peterborough Cowl because I knit it last weekend in the car, in the dark, on the way to see my sister in Peterborough.  I quite like it.  I’m glad I frogged the scarf I didn’t like to make this instead.  Pattern coming soon.

That’s it for me for this week, I think.  If I get all my goals met, I’ll post an update.

Hope it’s a good one for you.
