She liked it. Fewf!

I went to see my grandmother last night after work.  I wanted to make sure that she had everything I made her before I left for my holidays.  I know it’s only a week but…

I think she liked it because she put it on right away and kept it on the whole time we were there.

Now I feel good – I put a smile on her face.

She thinks Jacob is getting so big.  It’s cute when she says that because he’s bigger than her – she looks up at him.

It’s funny how, as we get older (and bigger I suppose), our grandparents (and parents) get smaller.

I miss being little and hanging out with my grandparents at the cottage.  I have a lot of fond memories with them.  My grandfather loved to garden and to fish.  My favorit thing was pulling out the green onions.   When it came to fishing, I always made him put on my worm.  It grossed me out when he would cut the worm in half with his thumb nail.  GROSS!  My grandmother loved to sew.  I spent hours looking at all her thread and her big jars of buttons while she worked.  She used to make all the grandkids’ Christmas gifts.  She used to make my sister and I clothing too.  I wish I still had some of it.  Not that I could have put it on Jacob or anything.

Her sewing machine is still in her bedroom.  I suspect she doesn’t use it much anymore.  I’m not a big sewer.  She passed knitting on to me.  And my mother’s mother (Memère Rouleau) knit too.

I was destined to be a knitter.  It’s in my genes!

I’m off to bowl for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake” today with my Little, Taylor.  Should be a blast.

In the name of hair removal!!!

Oh-MY-God!!!  In light of my pending vacation, I decided to go for a wax today – legs, bikini, and underarms.  Why did no one try to talk me out of this???   I walked in the door and told Scott that next time I tell him I’m going for a wax – STOP ME!

I’m going for laser.

I finished Memère’s shrug thingy.  It’s really cute.  I hope she likes it.  I’m going to see her tomorrow.

Three more whole days to departure day!  Woo-hoo!

I called the airline and I’m allowed knitting needles.  If I get there and they make me chuck my Clover bamboo dpn’s in the bin, I’m going to be super-pissed.

Ciao for now.

I feel like I look like the Joker!

Ok.  So, the dentist’s wasn’t that bad.  It didn’t really hurt.  I’m just a big baby I suppose.  I walked in and Jacob was getting his filling (only one).  He was tougher than me for sure (I had three done).

Now it feels like the left side of my face weighs a million pounds.  I feel like I might look like Jack Nicholson as The Joker in the early Batman movies.  I have a nice cup of tea waiting for me but, I’m afraid to drink it.  I seem to have a hard time keeping my saliva in my mouth!

Oh, and did I mention that I don’t have benefits?  Over $500.00 later… I wish I was shallow enough to marry for money… but I’m not.  Dang!

Either way, I managed a few rows on Memère’s shrug at the dentist’s office.  I’m going to finish it tonight.  I absolutely want to get it done and have a little visit with her before I leave for my trip (IN FIVE DAYS!!!).

A girl from work asked me today if I had started packing yet.  I’m more concerned  about whether or not I can knit on the airplane.  I should probably make an effort to at least find my suitcase.  Then, at the last minute on Monday morning (departure-day), I’ll be frantic and just throw waytoo much stuff in my suitcase for nothing.  I always do that.  I pack a million tops (in case I’m not in the mood for the ones I was originally going to bring), and then I only wear a select few.  Then I end up worried about the weight of my suitcase at the airport (especially on the way back because of souvenires).  Maybe I’ll try to be better prepared this year.

I’m going to knit.

High speed Internet in the country

I live in the country.  Until about a month ago, I had dial-up.  Now, for anyone who have to put up with this because they find themselves outside the serviced area, you’ll understand me when I say that watching a two-hour info-mercial on the Sham-Wow is better than trying to pay your Bell bill.  I used to sit at my computer with my knitting because I knew I was guaranteed to get at least two rows in before the page was loaded.  And, by a “page”, I don’t mean one that contains nice, colorful pictures (like a knitting site loaded with patterns and yarns, etc).  No, I mean just my Bell bill.  It honestly made me all kinds of cranky.

Now, a new day has dawned.  I have high-speed.  Unfortunately, I can’t stay off the computer.  You know how it was when you first got Internet?  Or, when you discovered ICQ (I think that’s what it was called.  You know – the equivalent of MSN’s grand-father).  I know I was addicted.  It was nothing to stay up way past my bedtime “chatting” with people I would never meet, just because the concept of IMing someone in another country was too cool.  Well, it’s happening again.  I think the first night, I went on Knitty.com and Ravelry.com and just looked at all the pretty pictures… for hours. I just couldn’t peel myself away.

I love the fact that I can look up a knitting book, a pattern, or a stitch I’m curious about.  I can finally watch knitting instructional videos in my PJ’s.  I used to have to do all this at work on my lunch.  Can you imagine?  I once tried to load a video on how to do a provisional cast on.  I think it must have taken about 3 hours to load the bloody thing.  I was so mad that I ended starting a new project just because I didn’t want to wait anymore.  Piss on that!!!

All this new technology!  What shall I do?  There aren’t enough hours in the day for me to look at all the “knitterly” things I come across.

See?  Past my bedtime.  I should have been working on my Memère’s shrug!!! I’m a bad grand-daughter!!!!!  I only have about four inches left.  Maybe I’ll get some done at the dentist’s tomorrow.  (I hate needles in my mouth and I have cavities.  Yikes!  Honestly… I think I would rather get my left nipple pierced!)
