First things first…

Have you seen this???

Glow in the Dark
Item No. 866
Bernat Glow in the Dark. 70% Acrylic, 30% Polyester yarn. Glows brightly in the dark!

Am I the only one who thinks this is WRONG?  It’s like ketchup on Shepard’s Pie!  I know some of you are fans of the ketchup but, I feel strongly that it does not belong on Shepard’s Pie.   Sorry… I’m getting off-track.  This glow in the dark stuff is just not right!  I get that some people have a hard time getting their kids to wear the things that they knit.  THIS is going too far.  Hand knits should not glow in the dark.

Ok.  Sorry.  I had to get that out of my system.

I’ve finished my hobo bag.  It’s quite ugly.  I ran out of one colorway.  So, I added some black Briggs & Little to create a dividing stripe and used another colorway of the same yarn.  It’s also rather large.

I don’t know what it is with me that makes me keep mis-judging felted items.  I always assume that they’ll shrink way more than they actually do.  And when they don’t, I’m always surprised.

I’ve also been working on another pair of socks.  I’m forever making socks.  It’s ok.  I’ve learned to love making socks over the years.

These are made of Knit Picks’ Stroll Hand-Painted.  They’re fantastically soft.  The pattern is my own creation.  I don’t know if I like it enough to spread it around but it’s cute.  We’ll see.  The design was supposed to include a little calf shaping.  I’ve found that the socks I knit always fit me in the calf but are “baggy” in the ankle.  When I was almost finished the first sock, I realized that it was too tight in the instep.  So, start again.  I did the calf shaping the same but added stitches before the heel so that it would fit better in the instep.  It worked but I’m not sure I like the result.  I’ll leave them and perhaps try again on another pair at another time.

I’ve been thinking of starting my Pucker.  I got the yarn a few months back.  It’s been sitting in my yarn closet waiting for me ever since.  I figure I should get started on it or I won’t have it finished for wearing this summer.  It’s a pretty summery top, no?

I’ve also been staring at this sweater that an old friend brought me – the acrylic sweater that her mother started before she died.  I’m just really not motivated to work on it.  BUT, I HAVE GUILT!  She’s going to think I’ve forgotten about it.  Truth is, it’s been sitting on my couch – so that I’m reminded every day – but I can’t bring myself to work on it.

Oh, I also learned something new last week:

It’s a drop-spindle – so you can spin in the car.  I think it’s really neat that someone came up with a portable spinning mechanisme.  I wonder what people would say if I whipped it out at the doctor’s office one day?

I took it to work one night so I could spin on my break and this is what happened when they got a hold of my roving:

They just can’t help themselves.

Today is Canada Day!  Happy Birthday CANADA!!!  Woohooo!

I’ll be missing the festivities as I’m working the night shift.  I’ll get to celebrate by watching all the drunk people the guys will arrest and put in our cells for the night! Haha.  Sometimes, they’re entertaining and sometimes they’re not!!!

I’ve been working a lot – 8 out of 9 days (mostly nights).  Not too bad ha?  And I was worried about not getting hours. Ha!  Needless to say the housework and yard-work are getting seriously neglected.  I’m really looking forward to three days off after this last night shift.  The grass is long and it’s stressing me out!!!!

Happy Canada Day!

It was a different spindle, but I have spun in a doctor\’s office. The others sort of looked at me sideways, but I spun on. And dropped the spindle a couple of times too.
