My sister turned me on to CouchSurfing a few months ago. I checked it out and it seemed pretty cool. It’s for people who love to travel, LIKE ME!! I’m sure different people do it for different reasons.  For me, it’s a great way to travel on a budget.

I put on my profile that I was also able to host. I never thought anyone would ever send me a “couch request” but WOW!  People actually come to Cornwall.  So far, they’re mostly just going through Cornwall but hey! who’s cares.

My first “surfer” was Caleb the soldier from Petawawa. (I should have gotten a picture of him.)  We’re still in touch.  He was really cool.  He’s been EVERYWHERE with the military so I had fun asking him about all these places.

Me second were two kids from LA biking from Kingston to Montreal to Boston to NYC.  Dave (left) and Kyle (right).  They were pretty fun, despite the age difference.  They would have gotten along fabulously with Jacob if he hadn’t been working.

My third were an awesome couple from Calgary.

Now I have to elaborate on these two because I love what they’re doing. They both left their jobs, sold their home and car, got a VW camper and are now traveling from coast to coast in Canada in search of Canadian artists. How interesting is that?! I may have bombarded them with questions. I hope they didn’t mind. They were just so interesting that I couldn’t help myself. They spent two nights with me and I was sad to see them go. We’ve been keeping in touch. I always look forward to hearing about where they are now.

Meet Gary and Corinne Funk… and Marli the cat.

And make sure to check out their website: ArtsQuest.ca.  I’ve already spent hours on it!

Last night I hosted Deb and Tariq. I was instantly comfortable with these two. They’re a couple from Toronto who are bicycling from home to Montreal, FOR FUN. I told them I thought they were crazy! But you have to admire their sense of adventure.

We ate and talked until the three of us were so absolutely pooped that we called it a night. They were easy-going, interesting and funny. I’m looking forward to visiting them in Toronto in the next few months.

Don’t they look happy?  I love happy people!

All and all, I’m loving this whole idea. Yes, I get a LOT of flack from the people I work with…. Strangers staying in my house… Bla bla bla.  No, I’m not going to stop. I still believe in the goodness of people.  Maybe that makes me naive but I don’t care. I’m making all kinds of new friends and that makes me happy.

This weekend, I host 4 people from Europe. THIS should be interesting. 🙂

In the meantime, I haven’t had a chance to knit much, let alone spin. I did manage to pump these out for the twins I made the pea pod for.

I really hope I get better pictures of these soon.  Maybe pictures with babies?

I’m also working on this super-long tube that looks like a sock. I’m making it to block the light from under my door when I work nights and sleep during the day. A lot of light comes from under my bedroom door. So, there you go! I’ll stuff it with some rice/beans and call it a day… Or should I say night.  I was thinking about this the other day though…  I’ve now spent probably in the dozens of hours on this “tube” that would have taken me maybe 7 minutes to sew.  I’m not really sure what I was thinking.  (Please keep your comments to yourself about this.)  😛

I got some yarn to start a sweater. I’m now just waiting for a little extra time to fall from the sky.

Wow! With all these new friends you are making, you will not have time to work any more! Better win the lottery…

What an awesome post! Thanks for including us in it. The surfing is certainly one thing but if not for the host there would be no experience. I guess it works both ways. We certainly had a ton of fun staying with you and hearing about your passion of all passions, knitting. C and G
